It is then that a mysterious girl appears before him and with a look of disdain tells him that he's been kidnapped and unless his family agrees to pay a ransom he has no chance to escape. But perhaps there is more to this than just money... The rich boy stuck in his never changing daily life... The fierce girl struggling for survival... Here are some key points without spoiling the story:
Overall, a pretty solid buy, especially at 25% off. I always enjoy supporting developers who write about more serious themes like this and clearly put effort into their work.. World is not fair. I wanted to enjoy this visual novel more than I did, truly. It has an interesting and original premise, and to start off with, the art is absolutely stunning, some of the best I've seen in any VN. Those two things are primarily what drew me to purchase it. The soundtrack is quite nice, too - a little repetetive, but appropriately melancholy. Unfortunately, the translation is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, not enough to be terrible but more than enough to be very much noticeable. The dialogue is repetitive, the story is repetitive, and the characters are flat and one-dimensional. This VN makes a sincere attempt at writing nuanced characters and a complex story, but it just... doesn't work. The characters repeat the same things over and over (and over) again in an effort to drive home a point that has already been made. I'm still missing two endings, but I've put about four hours into reading it, and honestly, the story they're trying to tell could have been told in far less. It's not a terrible VN! Like I said, there are good points. It's up to you whether or not the good points are worth slogging through it, though. I'd give it a 2/5 stars.. This game has officially turned me into a masochist. It hurts my inside so bad, but I love it so much </3. It's not a bad game. Simply not worth the price. If you include the free demo, I put about six hours total into this game for the "good" ending and the true ending. The story is mostly captivating, the characters are sympathetic, and the music score is solid all-around. Fairness, social class structure, the wealthy vs poor- this game has a strong message it wants to portray, and it usually does it well when combined with the music. Some problems though. As is typical with the genre unfortunately, some of the choices which lead to the good ending are either nonsensical or intentionally misleading. Asking a curious question may make your character suddenly act antagonistic. Given two sarcastic response choices, one will make the kidnapper flip out and the other is more nonchalant. Observed the curtain day 1? Sorry, you're supposed to do that on the final day. It makes you feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick Lucy's football, while she (the game) assures you can do it this time. The game intentionally misleads, which feels "unfair" to the player. Which may feel ironic given the story's theme, but isn't good at all from a gameplay perspective. Other nitpicks: You're given a time limit on story choices, but some feel too fast and you will barely have time to read them before you have to click. There are also some jumps in logic here and there within the otherwise good story. Good music, a (mostly) good story, sympathetic characters and a strong message. But the gameplay is often misleading with choices, and the game is detrimentally hampered by it's poor length of 4-6 hours. For the $12 I paid for it, and the original $15 asking price, it should be at least twice that. Get this one at $5 or less, or pass on it and have no regrets.
